HealthSouth Fort Smith Celebrates National Rehabilitation Week
Location: 1401 South J Street
HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Smith will join rehabilitation providers across the nation Sept. 20-26, 2015, in celebration of National Rehabilitation Week with the theme Passport to Independence.
HealthSouth hospitals provide the passport to independence for patients overcoming challenges after an illness or injury. The week will be highlighted by various events and activities at the hospital. Employees, patients and patient families will be invited to visit HealthSouth Fort Smith for a Kick-off Breakfast with Mayor Sandy Sanders at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21. The inpatient rehabilitation hospital will also be announcing the patient of the year at the annual Patient of the Year Luncheon at noon on Friday, Sept. 25. This is an invite only event that will honor a patient who made extraordinary efforts and progress in inpatient and outpatient therapy.
“Getting patients to their destination of independence is our mission at HealthSouth Fort Smith,” said Dawn Watts, CEO at HealthSouth Fort Smith. “National Rehabilitation Week provides a great opportunity for our hospital to honor how much each of our patients have accomplished since their injury or illness. We invite the community to travel with us to learn of the successes that rehabilitation brings to patients at our hospital every day.”

National Rehabilitation Week was established in 1976 to create awareness of people with disabilities and promote the benefits of rehabilitation. In 1990, a presidential proclamation designated the third week of September as National Rehabilitation Week, which has grown to include more than 7,000 organizations.
