3/03/2015

FORT SMITH, Ark.- HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Smith celebrates National Patient Safety Awareness Week March 8-14, 2015, to educate the community, patients and their families, clinicians and others on the importance of patient safety in the hospital and at home. Adopting the theme “Set Sail For Safety,” the hospital will show its commitment to caring for our patients in a safe manner to keep them sailing smoothly toward their rehabilitation goals.

Join HealthSouth Fort Smith for Patient Safety Day on March 14, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Area home health agencies will be present to provide information on available resources and educational booths will be set up for fall prevention, medication safety and Speak Up™ initiatives which encourage patients to become more involved and informed in their healthcare. Participants can also take advantage of blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks and balance testing provided at no charge.

“Patient safety is a top priority and one of the most important aspects in creating a high-quality patient experience,” said HealthSouth Fort Smith CEO Dawn Watts. “We know that patients have a choice and we work to enhance our culture of safety every day. This event is an excellent opportunity to recognize the importance of safety in our hospital.”

Patient Safety Awareness Week was initially launched in 2002 and is endorsed by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) whose mission is to: improve the safety of patients by identifying and creating a core body of knowledge; identify pathways to apply the knowledge; develop and enhance the culture of receptivity to patient safety; raise public awareness and foster communications about patient safety as well as improve the status of NPSF and its ability to meet its goals.
